It is of a great quality the act of loving kindness and one that everyone should be able to receive and give equally. This pantanjali yoga sutra remains firm in my mind and I love this one and remind myself continuously, from my first teacher training which is. ............................................................................................ 1.33 In relationships, the mind becomes purified by cultivating feelings of friendliness towards those who are happy, compassion for those who are suffering, goodwill towards those who are virtuous, and indifference or neutrality towards those we perceive as wicked or evil. Morning practice in kapotasana, in this pose the chest expands and puffs like that of a pouter pigeon. Still trying to grab hold of those feet. The effects of this pose is stretch and circulate blood through the entire spinal column, pelvic organs and to really lift the diaphragm and this will massage the heart muscle. This picture taken today reminds me of the rough turmoil times that can appear in life, yet we can still see the true beauty of everything that is. At the moment in my life, things are really challenging me. Work isn’t abundant, financial freedom is stuck, my family home is coming to the end of our stay. I feel really unsettled. I continue to remind myself that this feeling is not me, it is circumstance which can be resolved eventually, it doesn’t need to effect my true home of the essential self. When I sit everyday attempting to reach a meditative state. There is a consistent peeling of each thought that has built up in my mind often recently but the deeper and longer I stay past thoughts, ideas, patterns that have been passed down from ancestral lines appear, I notice them, lean into the pain and they dissipate and their is a deep release. Backbending has been a great challenge for me, not being able to see and trust what’s behind me, the fear of the unknown. I have slowly been able to start to trust and know that fear is all in my mind. Yes we need to be very aware of our alignment in a backbend and understand areas along the spine that bend easily than others. in my case the Lumbar is very mobile, even too mobile so I need to try and enhance the thoracic bend more so and stabilise the lumbar region. Our daily lives we are constantly forward bending which stretch the posterior spine. Rarely do we bend the other way. Back bending asanas stretch the spinal column in a concave movement and are very important , as the anterior spine extends in backbending , the blood circulates more freely. The opening of the chest in these postures energises the lungs and breathing becomes deep with the result that oxygenated blood circulates all over the body. The overall effect of the backbends is that they tone and train the spine and the muscles of the back to bend backwards. They rejuvenate the spine and develop physical strength and vitality. They bring freedom of movement and are ideal for those suffering from stooping shoulders, hunch backs, slipped discs, stiff spine, rheumatism and backache. They open the chest and improve breathing which in turn causes a calmer state of mind. Fullness and depression vanish with practice of backbends. Lovely this afternoon to be able to give John and his daughter Jess a private yoga session. Jess is on her way back to live overseas and what a better way to end her stay, with her dad and her moving their bodies to various asanas. Being aware of the impermanence that surrounds us, surrendering, letting go of attachments, being balanced to accept the not so pleasurable experience of suffering, sadness or loss. Yoga is a tool for us to look closely at our tendencies, whether good or bad, we become deeply aware as we observe and are able to transform and evolve.
